This document is provided purely for informational purposes and should not be used if you don't know what you're doing. MusicBrainz Picard is an application to tag and organize your music library. It's not hard to use, but it can be a little chaotic in the beginning if you have lots of audio files. Once you tag the first one, though, it becomes a piece of cake. MusicBrainz Picard lets you manually change your files' ID3 tags.

Although iTunes comes with a built-in tag editor to modify the information of tags such as title, artist, album artist, grouping, etc., it's not powerful enough. This article will introduce a free music tag editor for iTunes on both Mac and Windows.
Part 1. Free Music Tag Editor for iTunes - MusicBrainz Picard
MusicBrainz Picard is a free tag editor using the famous MusicBrainz database which is a user-maintained metadatabase of album information. As the official MusicBrainz tagger, Picard suggests precise tag changes to your music based one the file name, and semi-automatically identify songs in your collection. It is a cross-platform tag editor for both Windows, Mac and Linux. Download it here.
Key Features of MusicBrainz Picard
Clustering Tracks
Get started with adding iTunes files or folder to MusicBrainz Picard on the left pane. It will read the metadata from all files and unless they have been tagged before, the files will be put into the 'Unmatched files' folder. Then simply click Cluster button to cluster them into a new album. After that, drag and drop Album to the right pane, and check the match quality. If satisfied, you can right click each track and choose 'Save' to write the metadata to iTunes library. You can also select multiple tracks on the right pane and save all changes to tracks.
Automatic Lookup

Select the cluster or file and click the 'Lookup' button in the toolbar, Picard will query MusicBrainz database find the best possible match. And it will flag the tracks with a green, red, or orange flag to indicate how close of a match each file is to the MusicBrainz database.
Manual lookup
If automatic lookup provides inaccurate results or no results, select the cluster or file you want to lookup and use one of the lower 'Lookup' buttons in Picard. This opens the MusicBrainz website with a list of possible matches for your reference.
Identify Songs
Picard can try and tag your files based on their Acoustic Finger prints of songs. To do so, select a set of files and click 'Scan'.
Matching Files & Saving
The song tracks in the right pane will start out with a icon after looking up the MusicBrainz database, and when the tracks become associated with your files (by drag and drop to the right), the icon with change to one of the following:
1. A small rectangle ranging from red to green indicates the quality of the match, where red is a bad match and green is a good match.
2. A red error triangle means Picard encountered an error.
3. A green check mark indicates the track is up to date and saved to iTunes library. You can see it in iTunes. If not, update the info through Get Info command.
Warning: DO NOT consolidate your library in the middle of using MusicBrainz Picard, consolidating library must be done before or after.

I know I'm responsible for using unstable beta software. It could easily be a macOS issue. Just thought you might want to be aware.
